Team M'Phasis in the News

YourWestValley.com did a story about Team M'Phasis

When Will Roberts left Philadelphia to make a new home in the Valley of the Sun 12 years ago, he did it for family. When Roberts was young, his father was imprisoned and he was left without that guiding presence in his life.

“My sister moved out here because she was involved in an abusive relationship,” he said. “And she had my nephews with her. So I moved out here to help them because I didn’t want them not having a father figure.”

Cinco De Mayo Tournament Recap

Gum (#2) at tipoff
On May 2nd and 3rd, the Team M'Phasis Elite team took on the Cinco De Mayo tournament at Cesar Chavez High School (Laveen, Arizona) and The Salvation Army KROC Center (Phoenix, Arizona).  The tournament started slow with a tough loss but that did not discourage the boys, they went into the next game with the goal to capture a win. M'Phasis finished strong, winning the next four games to win the consolation championship. The team looked like they have found a building block by their  defense and playing off of one another. The highlight of the weekend was a fast break that started with a defensive rebound, then five passes which lead to an uncontested layup without the ball touching the court once.

Team M'Phasis keeps on improving and becoming stronger as a team. The Elite team will be playing Elite 8 in the Desert Tournament this coming weekend (May 9th and 10th), the first game is 11 am at Arizona Christian University (Phoenix, Arizona).

Illunga has played with Team M'Phasis for the past two years, making a huge impact on and off the court for the program. He recently just finished his senior season at Kellis where he had an unbelievable game scoring 51 points to get the Cougars a win over Liberty High School. Full story can be viewed at the following link: Illunga Moise 51-point game

Moise has been an amazing player on the court, helping lead both Team M'Phasis and Kellis but he also has become a great young man off the court where he volunteers a lot of his time around the community. Illunga Moise has all the skills and ability to compete and the college level and will step on the college court for the 2015-2016 season as a Mustang at Western New Mexico University. Congratulations Ilunga!
